Mourning Doves are a common sight across the country, perching on wires or foraging along quiet roadsides. Their buff coloring is excellent camoflouge, and their gentle cries mirror their graceful demeanor. At the beginning of the breeding season, the male studiously examines twigs before bringing them to his mate, usually in a thick stand of evergreens. He lands on her back and thus delivers the twigs to her, so that she can build the nest around her body.
