This diminuitive wildflower blooms early, often en masse. Its two leaves are mottled with a waxy sheen, and the yellow petals curl back. I sketched this cluster of trout lilies on the banks of Brown’s Creek, right by my studio, then took the sketch inside to put my pastels to work. If you visit my studio in April, I may be able to introduce you to this little family blooming under the sycamore trees while the creek laughs by.
