Red-breasted Nuthatches Card

Red-breasated Nuthatches are comical bundles of energy, jumping headfirst down tree trunks, this way and that, flitting about like bird-monkeys. They are cavity nesters and prefer coniferous forests, from which they collect resin globules to line the entrance and interior of their nests as a means of protection. They avoid their sticky traps by flying directly into the nest hole. Red-breasted nuthatches are cheerful visitors to your feeder, preferring the heavier items, which they will wedge in the bark of a tree and hammer open.
