The Mayapple (Podophyllum peltatum) is a late spring wildflower with one small white bloom underneath a huge parasol of two leaves. Immature plants have only one large leaf. The flower matures into a small greenish fruit that is edible in small amounts and has unique medicinal qualities. Mayapples often congregate in huge patches–spring maidens blushing under a sea of umbrellas. Very charming!
